Upbit: licence & API-bot rules

Upbit is a South Korean crypto exchange operated by Dunamu; this tab covers its VASP licence status and its Open API terms for automated/API trading before you connect any bot.

  • Upbit (Dunamu) is registered as a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) with South Korea's Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) under the Financial Services Commission (FSC), one of the few exchanges to hold KYC/AML registration and a real-name bank account there. It is a licensed domestic exchange, not an offshore or unregulated one, though its licence renewal has faced regulatory scrutiny including a 2025 fine.
  • Automated trading is only supported through Upbit's own Open API (order placement, balance and market data), governed by a separate Open API Terms of Service on top of the main user agreement: any EA or bot must connect through this API and IP-whitelist the key it uses, since API keys tied to sensitive actions (trading, deposits, withdrawals) require a registered static IP.
  • Split trade and withdrawal permissions on any API key you generate: grant an EA trade/read access only and leave withdrawal permission off, so a leaked key cannot move funds off the exchange.
