  • KuCoin's regulatory status varies sharply by region rather than being one clean licence: it holds no CFTC registration and its operator, Peken Global Limited (Turks and Caicos Islands), was permanently barred from the U.S. market and fined $500,000 under a March 2026 federal consent order for letting U.S. traders access its matching engine without registering as a foreign board of trade; it has no licence to serve Dubai (VARA) or Singapore (MAS), and is excluded from mainland China and Hong Kong.
  • KuCoin's API terms let users generate keys with separately toggled permissions (General (read-only), Spot/Margin/Futures Trade, and Withdraw) and its own security guidance says to grant only the permissions an application needs and to combine keys with an IP whitelist; a bot only needs Trade access, and enabling Withdraw on a bot's key is a self-inflicted risk KuCoin explicitly warns against, not a requirement.
